My entry in the ‘Single or Double Page Spread, Heritage/History’ for the 2017 Adelaide Royal Show in the Open Art and Craft scrapbooking section was a layout using a 1957 photo of my mum, aunt and uncle. It’s one of my favourite photos :)
The spotted background paper is from Pink Paislee – from the Parisian Anthology collection – Fancy Filigree.
I then machine stitched a ‘Life is Beautiful’ frame which I had cut from a paper called ‘Mirror Mirror’ from the Bella! Ever After collection.
To add texture to the background I stamped the background with bubble wrap that was coated with black acrylic paint. I also stenciled the background with light molding texture paste. I stenciled a border on both sides of the background paper.
The stencil – Kaisercraft’s 6×6 stencil – Lace Borders.
Texture paste – Golden Gel Mediums
Rather than go with the traditional heritage colours, that is often used for a heritage layout, I decided to use colour. The main colour was going to be blue with splashes of gold and brown.
Using a blue printed paper from the Grace Taylor Vintage Collection paper pack, I outlined the flowers with a black marker and then cut them. Outlining the flowers gave them added definition.
I used the blue side of the American Crafts – Finders Keepers Collection – Treasure paper to die cut a couple of pieces to place on both sides of the photo.
The die – Kaisercraft’s decorative die – texture stained glass
The butterflies were cut from 2 different Kaisercraft papers:
Indigo Skies Collection – Chambray
Mix and Match Collection – Butterflies.
The final piece of paper to be fussy cut was the Honeysuckle paper from Kaisercrafts’s Forget-Me-Not collection.
Other embellishments included:
- A stamp cut from K&Company Life’s Journey collage embossed paper sheet –
- 2 stamped sentiments from Ali Edwards – Technique Tuesday – Favorite Memories
- American Crafts – My Girl Collection – Printed Chipboard letters – Kitten – Black – numbers
- Authentique – Petite Type – letters
- a chipboard frame, a stop watch, a gold heart and lace
I received a 2nd prize ribbon for this layout :)
